Poll: NH Influencers predict Sununu vs. Hassan; Ayotte vs. Pappas
Granite State political Influencers expect Republican Gov. Chris Sununu to run for U.S. Senate against Democratic incumbent Sen. Maggie Hassan next year, according to the latest HynesSight Influencer Survey, a poll of political insiders, conducted during the last week of October.
Roughly 71% of political Influencers believe Sununu will challenge Hassan while 16% believe he will run for reelection. 8% say he will not run for anything. The remainder say they are not sure.
"Only he knows," one Influencer said. "But the pressure to run for Senate is obvious. My guess is he wouldn't like being a Senator."
Should Sununu vacate the Governor’s office, 47% of Influencers believe former U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte will be the Republican nominee for Governor in 2022; 31% believe Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut will be the Republican nominee; 13% believe Senate President Chuck Morse will be the Republican nominee; the balance say someone else.
One Influencer who believes Edelblut will be the nominee said, "the ultra-conservative base will turn out and Ayotte and Morse will split the remaining vote."
Most Influencers believe first congressional district Rep. Chris Pappas will be the Democratic nominee for Governor in 2022; 22% believe Sen. Tom Sherman will be the Democratic nominee; 10% believe Stefany Shaheen will be the Democratic nominee; the balance say someone else.
"There's no clear heir apparent," one respondent said. "This is going to be a free for all."
